I use Screen Sharing on MacOS to connect to my Mac Mini machines. I like to use full-screen mode. I usually prefer to use Jollys Fast VNC, but I haven’t installed it yet on my newest Mac Mini, so I used the built-in Screen Sharing. Sadly, this decision led to learning something that one shouldn’t need to learn.

How does one exit full-screen mode on MacOS’s built-in Screen Sharing when one uses a mouse instead of a trackpad, and therefore can’t swipe? I couldn’t do this with the keyboard shortcuts that I knew (Esc or Cmd+Ctrl+F). I had to search the web.

For Screen Sharing, in particular, to exit full-screen mode, move the cursor up to the top of the screen and then wait several seconds for the Screen Sharing menu to appear. You could have given me ten years and it wouldn’t have occurred to me to try this; instead, I moved the cursor up to the top of the screen, I didn’t seen anything happen, and then I moved the cursor wildly around the screen. Now I know.

And now you know. Enjoy.
